BUILDING COMMUNITIES OF CARE

FL_Background .png

Our Community of Care brings neurodivergent individuals, parents and caregivers together through support groups and shared learning. These groups offer a welcoming space to connect, exchange practical ideas and explore everyday challenges with people who understand similar experiences. As our community grows, we aim to develop peer-based support programmes shaped by the voices and lived experience of our members. Our goal is to nurture lasting connections, mutual support and a sense of belonging, with community members increasingly supporting one another.

WHAT IS NEUR    DIVERGENCE

Functional Living

Neurodivergence describes ways of thinking, learning, sensing, moving, communicating and relating that differ from dominant societal norms. For most neurodivergent people, these differences are an intrinsic, lifelong part of who they are. Neurodivergence includes a broad range of neurocognitive profiles and experiences, and extends beyond diagnostic labels to include people who self-identify or who have not had access to assessment. Each neurodivergent person has a unique combination of strengths, challenges and support needs, shaped by their circumstances and the environments in which they live. Understanding neurodivergence means recognising these differences and creating conditions that support wellbeing, participation and belonging.

Neurodiversity refers to the natural variation in minds and nervous systems across all people, both neurodivergent and neurotypical. It places neurodivergence within the broader context of human diversity, encouraging us to look beyond deficits. Some neurodivergent people identify as disabled and others do not, and both experiences are valid. Environments that were not designed with neurodivergent people in mind can create real barriers, and support needs vary from person to person and can change over time. At Functional Living Community, our focus is on working alongside neurodivergent people within this wider appreciation of neurodiversity.

WHAT IS FUNCTIONAL LIVING COMMUNITY ?

We empower individuals whom are Neurodivergent to navigate the world with confidence, providing tailored skills and strategies that celebrate their unique strengths while addressing the challenges of environments that may not always support their way of being.

OUR COMMUNITY C    NNECTIONS

Functional Living

Our community connections are the schools, organisations and community initiatives we have worked with and continue to build alongside. Some began with a single education session and others are growing into shared programmes, training and outreach. Together they form a network of people and places that share knowledge, point people towards one another's work and help make more spaces where neurodivergent people are understood and supported.
